Eyegum Music Collective presents GREAT SOUNDS GREAT, a multi-venue music and arts festival taking over Pōneke's Te Aro precinct for one night only on Saturday 5 September 2026. Showcasing 40 of Aotearoa's best artists across 10 neighbouring venues, this is one big party you shouldn't miss.

Eyegum has worked hard to curate a programme that is sure to offer something for everyone, from first time gig-goers to seasoned live music obsessives. The eclectic lineup includes national treasures like Bic Runga and Savage, heavy-hitting legends Beastwars, Kody Nielson’s enigmatic project Silicon, indie math rockers So So Modern, powerhouse party starter Mokotron, local hip hop sensation MĀ, and everything in between.

Tonic Collective are back with an impeccably curated lineup for their travelling stage, which includes Pitch Black celebrating 30 years as Aotearoa electronica pioneers and award winning sonic explorer Amamelia.

It's not all music, three of our best poets Chris Tse, Dani Yourukova, and Jackson McCarthy will also perform.

Excitingly for 2026, we are adding a new venue, the incomparable Meow Nui, helping make this year's event bigger and better than ever. We are also throwing a warm-up party, The Night Before, across three venues in Newtown village on Friday 4 September. This will showcase 12 incredible up-and-coming artists and is the perfect way to prepare for the main event.

Ticket holders will receive a wristband that will give them access to each of the participating venues throughout the event. Information on how to pick up wristbands will be provided to ticket holders closer to the time.

Stereoface returns to Valhalla after their successful debut with brand new music from across Radiohead's 30 year catalogue.

The Wayside's unique blues rock sound has a groove that gets the room moving. Recent New Zealand Battle of the Band's National Finalists, their high energy performances are punctuated by sick licks and soaring vocals.

A staple of the New Zealand rock circuit, the Wellington quartet is known for a professional, high-energy live show. Since the release of their debut EP State of Things, which earned international airplay and a Top 58 spot on The Generator FM’s Kiwi 101, the band has consistently anchored bills at iconic venues including San Fran and Valhalla.

Their pedigree includes support slots for AMA award winners Dead Favours on their Riffing & Yelling tour, Seismic State delivers a sophisticated performance built for the big stage.

Dead Cherry are are making waves with their high energy slice of old school rock ‘n roll, keeping it raw and real. Their debut EP Mother was released late last year.

Third Edition: What We Do Is Secret

Movement presents alternative sounds of the 80s and beyond to make you move.

Your host is DJ Matai, known for sets spanning vintage goth, new wave and post-punk. Expect to hear the classic and the obscure. Not only a selector, but a genuine alternative music fanatic, he is also known for running Razored Raw and drumming in bands such as No Sector and Maced.

TV DiSKO: plumbs the deeper recesses of the globe for post-punk, dark electro, synth-pop, minimal, cold and dark wave to fill a discerning dance floor.

Coffin Nails: fresh type-A negative blood injected into the Wellington selecting scene, Coffin Nails strikes again for Movement volume 1 edition 3. Coming with them is a breadth of genres, from iconic synth pop to the early days of hiphop, all freshly exhumed from the graves of the 80s.

Pennsylvanias progressive death metal progenitors Rivers of Nihil make their first voyage to Aotearoa New Zealand.

The quartets musicianship has been honed to a fine point thanks to an unrelenting touring schedule over the past few years, including headline tours of the U.S. and EU/UK, as well as touring with Cattle Decapitation, Carnifex, Lorna Shore, Between the Buried and Me, and touring with titans of progressive death metal Cynic, Beyond Creation, and Dååth.

Life on the road for Rivers is a treat for fans and band members alike. For the most part, its very mellow, with a lot of laughs and a lot of ball-busting. Andy (Guitar, Vocals), and I have been friends for over 15 years, and Jared (Drums) has been in the fold since 2017 says founding member/guitarist Brody Uttley. Founding bassist Adam Biggs became the bands new lead vocalist/bassist in 2023, which upped the ante and led to the release of self-titled album Rivers of Nihil (2025). Traditionally, a self-titled record can signal a return to basics and/or a fresh beginning, and in 10 powerful songs, its clear that both those factors are in play. I feel like these songs are the perfect blend of all our albums, with all the fat cut away, says Uttley.

What are we fundraising for?

Back to Everly is a short psychological drama-thriller set in a pastel, idealized world inspired by 1950s aesthetics. Society is built around a daily pill called Everly, which is believed to be essential for survival. Its use is completely normalized and reinforced through constant propaganda embedded in television, advertisements, and music, shaping a world where no one ever questions its necessity.

This film explores themes of conformity, control, and conditioned belief systems. At its core, Back to Everly asks how easily people accept systems of “truth” without questioning their origin or purpose.

We are raising money for:

• Art Department - $2000 of our budget will go towards costuming, props, hair and makeup, and set design. 

• Payment - We want to give back and express our appreciation to our talented cast. 

• Food - We want to accommodate and ensure everyone on our set is fed and looked after, as the crew is giving us their time for free

• Transport - Though we aren't paying our crew, transportation to and from set is expensive. Funds will go towards van hire and gas payments.

Sidewinder return to Wellington, fresh from their recent support slot for Slomosa, this time taking the lead alongside two of Aotearoa’s most gloriously loud heavy bands.

Wellington’s own Sidewinder have carved out a formidable place in the local heavy scene, fusing riff-heavy psych, swamp-drenched delta blues, and southern stoner rock into a sound that is unmistakably their own. Post Metal/Heavy Psychedelic titans Exit Sign (Auckland/Tamaki Makaurau) make their debut in Wellington for the release of their album, 'The Fallen'.

Having played a plethora of live shows in the brief time they've been active, the trio of musicians is ready to translate their pummeling live sound into a tangible studio release. 'The Fallen' marks their first chapter in developing their heavy psychedelic influences into a dense post-metal sound.
